Our first challenge was to provide data and voice connectivity to a single site within the Transdev estate to an extremely tight deadline. With our experience of implementing similar solutions, our team had the site up and running efficiently and well within the deadline.

Transdev was impressed with the result and we were asked to take on a much larger and complex project which consisted of five separate sites in and around Heathrow Airport, all of which were running WAN, LAN and wireless connectivity.

The first stage in any job like this is to audit/survey the existing systems to identify more efficient ways of working, but also to highlight any risks and explore ways to mitigate them. In this case, we recommended and then implemented a migration of the on-site servers to Azure, a much more resilient solution which also solved an ongoing outage situation.

Once this was completed, our ongoing support included monitoring the network and providing proactive support to all network devices and client laptops, whilst also providing desktop support and Microsoft licensing.

With the size of the estate and network, we made the decision to have an engineer on site two days per week to supplement our remote monitoring.

As the sole IT expert on site, our engineer is the Transdev eyes and ears, providing full support to the 80-plus users across all five sites both air side and land side, ensuring issues are resolved, and installations implemented quickly and efficiently.

In September 2021, as the result of a successful bid to win a Fleet Management Services contract at Heathrow, we were again asked to support Transdev as it expanded to a new site. This time the challenge was to deploy mobile IT services for the site as quickly as possible so it could begin operating.

Within two weeks of Transdev being awarded the contract, the new 15-user site was already up and running. Because time was of the essence, we originally provided temporary connectivity until the high-speed direct internet access was installed.

Due to the nature of the business, the site included garage spaces for vehicle maintenance as well as offices and meeting rooms, and all of these needed both wired and wireless networking to function effectively.

Additionally, to ensure the garage-maintenance operation could work effectively, we provided laptops and other hardware including routing/switching and clock-in/clock-out systems amongst others.

Our relationship with Transdev continues to flourish, with almost all of our services being used somewhere across the business. Most recently we helped to further strengthen its security following an unsuccessful phishing attack.

Our two-tier solution included providing Exchange, OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint backup, and to install more robust email protection. This proved particularly effective and shut down an attempted security breach within the first week. 

Transdev has benefited not only from our wide range of expertise, employing many of the solutions we provide at sites across its estate, but has also seen how effectively we can react to a new request, quickly understanding what’s needed and deploying the solution at speed, often in business-critical situations.
